TOS stands for thoracic outlet syndrome. Symptoms of TOS appear most often in the form of various kinds of numbness, weakness, swelling in the arms/hands or a change in skin colour. A person suffering from TOS may also have multiple other symptoms such as pain or stiffness in the neck or shoulders.
Human congenital bone structure affects a person’s susceptibility to developing TOS. Also, various other factors such as stationary work, poor posture, whiplash, and shoulder injuries can cause the syndrome to occur. TOS occurs if the musculoskeletal structures (bones, muscles, connective tissue) put weight on the nerves and the blood vessels in the neck.
TOS is often the result of body malfunctions that are caused by strain and muscle imbalance. The goal of the treatment is to restore the body’s normal functioning and often reduce and eliminate the symptoms.
